Into The Light

Kylon Williams and Jaes Jones

Medium : Community- engaged project and documentary film

Date : November 2014 - March 2015

Participating Communities:

(1)  Rainey Institute

(2)  Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western        Reserve University

Project Description:

This is a one-on-one drawing activity. One student from each community started the project from sitting in a dark room together. A light box, several toothpicks and black scratch film sheets were provided for the two participants to draw their thoughts. The topic was not limited and was depending on their conversation. As using toothpicks to scratch off the black paint, which is covering the clear film sheet, the light from the light box gradually emerges in the dark. The image of the drawing is constituted of many lines of the light. The process of tracing the light is just as the progression of tracking the mind from each other. Through this art practice, the students from Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine get to observe the identity of Rainey Institute as a whole community and bring up their research questions about heath in relation to the community of Rainey Institute.
